THE BALLAD OF SIMON AND TERESA

At the end of World War II, Teresa prays for Simon's return, while his elder brother Matej, who came back just recently, has already lost hope. Matej asks Teresa to marry him, but she doesn't accept his proposition. Then Simon returns, scarred by war. Despite the care and help of the others, Simon gradually falls deeper into lethargy. As Matej finally understands that Teresa is not meant for him, his attempt to teach his brother a lesson ends tragically. While Simon finds his peace beyond this world, Teresa and Matej will have to bear its weight for the rest of their lives.
