Logline

THE LOAD

This film tells the story of 33-year-old Matthew, who is attempting to enter the United States illegally in order to help his brother, who is in prison there. Following a strict diet and practicing his breathing and his ability to contort himself, he prepares to make the arduous crossing in a narrow wooden box. When he finally gets onto the container ship, he discovers that he’s not the only one on his way to the promised land.

Meet the director

THE LOAD

Miranda Namicheishvili

Miranda Namicheishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1993. At the age of 14, she shot her first short film, which managed to win a couple of awards at local youth festivals. She was accepted to the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University in Tbilisi. Her graduation film was shown at the Short Film Corner at Cannes in 2016. In 2019, she attended master classes and training sessions in Hollywood. Her master’s diploma film, THE LOAD, received the award for the best short film at the Tbilisi International Film Festival in 2021.
