A muffled jumble of voices in a cramped Chinese restaurant. A father helps his daughter with her homework. At the next table, a date goes horribly wrong. At the table across, the waitress is furious at the impertinence of two guests. In the background, goldfish swim serenely among the plastic plants in the iridescent blue aquarium. And amid the colorful hodgepodge of spring rolls, fortune cookies, and minor and less minor drama, two siblings bid farewell to their mother in an unusual ritual in order to try to overcome their guilt and speechlessness after her death.
