Free State of Bavaria

The Free State of Bavaria established Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH in 1979 along with the City of Munich and Bayerischer Rundfunk. In equal measure with the City of Munich, the State of Bavaria holds a 40% share in the company. Together they are the largest sponsors and loyal partners of the second-largest film festival in Germany. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and FILMSCHOOLFEST MUNICH are international magnets for this vital and robust industry in Bavaria. It is very important to the Free State of Bavaria as a state that places great value on arts and culture that diversity and creativity in film and media be fostered in a lasting way. In 2018, the State Ministry of Digital Affairs took on the responsibility for policy on film and also for Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH.

The Free State of Bavaria has been a proud and enthusiastic partner of Internationale Münchner Filmwochen for many years. 

Film and media are an important part of our culture. That’s why we’ve supported the two successful public festivals FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and FILMSCHOOLFEST MUNICH since their inception and will do so in the future as they continue to develop in an age of digital transformation.
