The Russian State University of Cinematography in Moscow, also known as the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, was founded in 1919 by film director Vladimir Gardin. It is the oldest film school in the world. Some of the most important figures in Soviet cinema such as Sergei Eisenstein, Vsevolod Pudovkin, Sergei Parajanov and Andrei Tarkovsky have studied and taught at this school.
