Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung (BUW) – Germany
The State Bauhaus, the most influential design school of the 20th century, was founded in 1919. By introducing a new understanding of art, technology and science, it has had a lasting influence on the design of the modern living environment. The name Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been linked to this history since it was renamed in 1996. With the founding of the Department of Art and Design in 1993, the university was reoriented toward the arts. The department, which functions as a college of fine arts for the Free State of Thuringia at the Bauhaus Universität Weimar, offers an integrated project-based program in art and design known as the Weimar Model. In this, the project forms the central study unit; it is supplemented by academic seminars as well as workshop courses and specialized courses that are largely geared to the requirements of the project.
