#freeSZFE: The Struggle for Academic Freedom at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest

On September 1, the Hungarian government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán suspended the autonomy of the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE) despite massive protests. Students and instructors subsequently occupied the university. On November 11, 2020, Hungary entered a coronavirus-induced lockdown with a strict curfew, and the occupation was ended by those involved for now. Anna Lengyel, a dramaturge and director, and Dorka Vermes, a student, are among the demonstrators. Journalist Susanne Burg spoke with both of them at FILMSCHOOLFEST MUNICH about the current situation at the SZFE and the cultural policy of the Orbán government.
