The summer of 2019 in Berlin: Overlooking the rooftops of the city, Aimee and Anissa are forging their plans for the future, wondering when puberty will end, how to have good sex, and what their plan might be after graduating from high school. Lea is similarly disoriented. When she’s not in school, she works at a supermarket and likes to go dancing in the evenings.

Meet the director

SORT OF GROWN UP

Marlena Molitor

Marlena Molitor was born outside of Stuttgart in 1994. She has worked for the Big World Cinema production company and the Encounters documentary film festival in Cape Town, among others. In 2016, she began her studies in documentary film and television journalism at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF). Her documentaries FEBRUÁR (2017) and PROHLIS (2019) were screened at international festivals and received several awards. Her latest documentary, SORT OF GROWN UP, premiered at the Hofer Filmtage in 2021. Marlena Molitor is currently in Colombia, doing research for her graduation film.
