TASTE OF HOME
Seventeen-year-old Mai supports her family in Vietnam by working illegally at a nail salon in Germany. There she befriends her boss’s eleven-year-old daughter, Linh. Contrary to promises that she will be allowed to keep working at the studio, Mai is to be sold on by her traffickers. In desperation, Mai asks Linh to hide her. But Linh is torn between friendship and family when she learns that her mother is part of this unscrupulous system.

Meet the director
Âni Võ is a Viet-German filmmaker. Studio Ghibli films and noodle soups are her most loyal companions. Between 2012 and 2016, she worked on various commercial and film sets in Vietnam and Germany before enrolling at HFF Munich to study film directing. Since then, as a director, writer and producer, she has been creating films that have been screened at LA Shorts and Flickerfest and have received several awards. Võ writes and creates films that deal with interpersonal issues and cultural identity in particular.
