Meet the Filmmakers: WEDDING NIGHT
Interview with director Fanni Mikkonen
Director Fanni Mikkonen
What would be the teaser text for your film WEDDING NIGHT?
Whose truth are you living?
Where does the inspiration for your film come from?
It comes from the need and right to express and have the freedom to search for your own truth. It is not always easy, and yet it is so important not to judge yourself or others while you are exploring life and yourself and I feel that our sexuality is a big part of it. Defining yourself and others may offer a momentary relief of some sort, but it can also be very exhausting and unnecessary, since we are changing all the time.
Which three people from film and television would you like to spend an evening with? Why? And what are you doing?
Jennifer Saunders, Lena Dunham and Wes Anderson. I love their works! We would roadtrip from Helsinki to a summerhouse in North Karelia. On our way we would pick up documentarist Virpi Suutari with us. Oh, and actually I would have to have Anna Biller with us too, definitely!!
For which film would you like to shoot the sequel?
LOLITA. I am not sure if it would be a sequel, more like a version with a different standpoint.
What is your favourite film - officially and secretly?
This is so difficult since there are so many absolute favourites! There are still few that have a special place in my heart: Finnish film KIVENPYÖRITTÄJÄN KYLÄ by Markku Pölönen, it is a beautiful world. Almodovar's VOLVER - it touches me every time with its themes, characters and beauty. LITTLE WOMEN (1994 Gillian Armstrong version) because after seeing that atmospheric movie as a child and meeting Jo March I started to write. Also THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW makes the world a better place. And then right now I have the new Joker movie heavy in my heart. It is so important and well-made movie that touched me a lot. To me the movie is all about the importance of compassion and the way society and us people treat each other.
Keyword "Munich". What comes to your mind first?
All the new movies and makers I'm looking forward to see and meet!
