Meet the Filmmakers: LOST BOY

Interview with director Shin Thandar

Meet the Filmmakers: LOST BOY

Director Shin Thandar

Where does the inspiration for your film LOST BOY come from?

The inspiration for my film comes from my empathy for a boy who doesn’t even know his exact birthday and where he comes from. I thought I could help him to find his home in the end. That’s why I decided to make a film about him.

What's your favorite film quote?

My favorite film quote is "Is it better to speak or to die?".

What is your favourite film - officially and secretly?

My favorite film officially is IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE by Wong Kar-Wai and secretly TASTE OF CHERRY by Abbas Kiarostami.

What was your favorite film festival experience so far?

I had a good experience at one of the rare filmfestivals in my home country, “Wathan Festival”,  last September.

Keyword "Munich". What comes to your mind first?

As I am a big fan of Manchester United, I am thinking about the Munich accident of their team in 1958. This is how I got the keyword “Munich” in my head.
