Meet the Filmmakers: GREY ZONE

Interview with director Gal Sagy

Meet the Filmmakers: GREY ZONE

Director Gal Sagy

What would be the teaser text for your film GREY ZONE?

Don't go jogging alone on a crowded street because a stranger could suddenly touch you.

Where does the inspiration for your film come from?

A few years ago I went running on a street in Tel Aviv. In the middle of the run, a stranger touched me against my will and walked away quickly. I was in shock and just kept on running. A few years later, I realized that I wanted to throw a character into this situation, and let her confront the man.

Which three people from film and television would you like to spend an evening with? Why? And what are you doing?

I'd love to spend an evening with Lena Dunham, Woody Allen and Han Solo, in a Laser Tag place with weird lighting. I believe it would be an embarrassing evening and no one would understand how to get into it but I'm sure I'd enjoy it.

What's your favorite film quote?

"Don't Panic!", this is not exactly a quote from a film but from one of my favorite books - "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams.

For which film would you like to shoot the sequel?

FRANCES HA by Noah Baumbach - because it would be fun.

What is your favourite film - officially and secretly?

One of my officially favorite films is an Israeli film- BROKEN WINGS directed by Nir Bergman. Secretly - probably THE NOTEBOOK.

What was your favorite film festival experience so far?

When I was a third-year film student, I was invited to a film festival in London to screen the first film I directed. I got there with half the team and we were probably the most excited and awkward group at the festival. I think it was the first time I really felt like a director.

Keyword "Munich". What comes to your mind first?

Family Eurotrip, 2008.
