Meet the Filmmakers: MEIR
Interview with director Shai Blanc
Director Shai Blanc
Write a one-sentence teaser text for your film MEIR.
Meir, a health care worker in a nursing home, must deal with difficult questions following a complaint about his patient being hurt.
Which film was the first to deeply impress you?
"Titanic". It had all I needed in a film those days (I was nine). Kitsch, a very handsome and touching main character (years after, I realized I’m gay), a lot of romance and great music. It was the first film to have a theme song that touched me and I do believe it was due to the way it was incorporated in the film. I remember looking for it all around (we did not have internet and I didn’t know how to buy disks).
A new TV series about studying film needs a title – which would you choose?
"It’s not ‘bout the money"
Which actor or actress would you love to work with and why?
Cate Blanchett. Her range of acting is so wide and interesting that I would love to test it in so many ways. I believe that working with such an experienced actress, not only in length but also in diversity, would be an interesting as enriching experience.

If your film was an animal, what animal would it be?
What do your grandparents think you do as a job?
My grandmother is actually one of the main actresses in the film and acted in some of my other projects. She’s well aware of my profession and likes to brag about it. She says that she prays every night for me to become a great editor and director.
What would you be if you weren’t a filmmaker?
Is this your first visit to Munich? What do you expect from the city and the festival?
It is my first visit to Munich and I heard so many great things about the city and mainly about the festival. From the festival I expect to be very sociable, full of encounters, talents and great films. From the city I expect a cool and calming weather with great people, art, food and drinks.
