Meet the Filmmakers: THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER

Interview with director Efim Graboy

Meet the Filmmakers: THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER

Director Efim Graboy with his protagonist

Describe your film THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER in three words.

War hero. Person. Naked.

Which film was the first to deeply impress you?

THE RETURN by Andrey Zvyagintsev.

Which actor or actress would you love to work with and why?

There are a lot of great actors in the world, not an easy task to pick one person. I think, when I'm writing a script, I imagine Elena Lyadova to play the role. I was very impressed by her performance in ELENA and LEVIATHAN. She is an amazing actress, very photogenic. Her beauty comes with sadness, she brings a heavy luggage with her to the screen and I love it.

If your film was an animal, what animal would it be?

A turtle.

What do your grandparents think you do as a job?

I don't have any, never met them. But my parents are like my grandparents, very old. My mother knows exactly what I am doing, she saw all my films. My father has less knowledge about it, but he knows that I'm shooting and editing and directing, he doesn't understand what exactly, but he supports it.

What would you be if you weren’t a filmmaker?

Behind the scenes of THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER

Is this your first visit to Munich? What do you expect from the festival?

Actually, it will be my third time in Munich, I love Germany very much so I visit a lot. I expect to have a good time, to enjoy, to see good films, to meet inspiring people.
