Interview with director Joren Molter

Meet the Filmmakers: GREETINGS FROM KROPSDAM

Director Joren Molter

Describe your film GREETINGS FROM KROPSDAM in three words.

Don't eat cake.

Which film was the first to deeply impress you?

I was blown away by ENTER THE VOID by Gaspar Noé. That film changed my vision of cinema.

Which actor or actress would you love to work with and why?

I would love to work with William Dafoe. To me, he's such an interesting man with a mysterious look. I really find him fascinating.

If your film was an animal, what animal would it be?

It would be a cow, dying very slowly of some disease, of course. Cows are herd animals and they look very slow.

What do your grandparents think you do as a job?

I think that they still believe that I am filming everything by myself with my own camera. They don't understand that there is a whole crew behind the camera.

What would you be if you weren’t a filmmaker?

I always wanted to be an actor. That is also how I started as a director when I was 13. I started making films with myself in the main role. But then I discovered that making a film is way more interesting than playing in it (and of course I wasn't good enough).

Is this your first visit to Munich? What do you expect from the festival?

Unfortunately I'm not able to visit the festival because I'm in the middle of the pre-production of our new film. So good luck everyone!
