Meet the Filmmakers: INLAND

Interview with director Piet Baumgartner

Meet the Filmmakers: INLAND

Director Piet Baumgartner

What is the teaser text for your film INLAND?

Based on a true story, Alina is fifteen when her stepfather, a stately Nigerian, is arrested for dealing drugs and her world is turned upside-down.

What is the original idea of your film – how did it all start?

This story really happened. When I first heard, I was speechless: How can such a thing happen in the Western world?

What was your highlight during the process of filmmaking?

The rehearsals with the actors before shooting are the most beautiful moments ever. This is when the paper is finally brought to life.

If you weren't a filmmaker, you'd be…?

Unfortunately, there is no plan B.

Is it your first time in Munich? What do you expect of the city and the festival?

Munich is well known to me, I have finished the ´Drehbuchwerkstatt München´ this summer. But how anyone can drink that much beer remains a mystery to me.
