Meet the Filmmakers: EUXINE
Interview with director Tess Hutson
Director Tess Hutson
What is the original idea of your film EUXINE – how did it all start?
The film is based on true events - 'Euxine' was a British coal carrier that sank in the Atlantic Ocean in 1874. My short film explores what may have followed for several of the crew whose lifeboat was capsized, leaving them adrift on the ocean for twenty-two days. When I first read of this story I was endlessly fascinated by the subject matter as it posed the simple (yet entirely complex) question of what being human really means.
