Obit - Bodo Fründt †
We mourn our Filmfest-colleague and friend
Bodo Fründt, the editor-in-chief of the Filmfest München catalog and other IMF publications, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, on Tuesday at the age of 69.
Bodo told us many things about his life - his childhood in post-war Cologne, his first job as a journalist for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, his years on the editorial staff of Stern magazine and the many directors from around the world he interviewed while there, his role at the Berlinale and, of course, countless anecdotes about the early years of Filmfest München.
He was part of Filmfest from the very beginning but he was always more than our editor-in chief. He was a mentor, an advisor, a raconteur, our living archive. But above all he was a friend.
We can all remember the nights we spent in the office just before the copy deadline or the opening of the festival. Sooner or later we all ended up in the editorial office. Just to talk, smoke a cigarette, pop a bottle of champagne when the catalog, against all odds, was actually ready to go to print. Or for one of Bodo's gourmet delicacies that were always available for anyone that popped in.
We mourn with his family and we will sorely miss him in the days and years to come.
