Dennis Gansel This Year’s Jury President
A jury of five to award prestigious prizes worth over € 45,000Jury President Dennis Gansel
Born in Hannover in 1973, Gansel is a graduate of the University for Television and Film in Munich and was at the festival often years ago. "I was at this festival almost 20 years ago as a new film student and I was absolutely elated," said Dennis Gansel. "I love shorts and am very curious about how these young filmmakers view the world."
His first feature film, THE PHANTOM, a political thriller made for TV won 3 coveted Adolf Grimme Awards. His first theatrical release GIRLS ON TOP was a box office success. The films that followed, NAPOLA, THE WAVE, WE ARE THE NIGHT and THE FOURTH STATE all garnered widespread acclaim. Universal Pictures recently announced that Gansel will be making his US directing debut with the thriller GRIM NIGHT soon.

The other members of the jury are actress Rosalie Thomass, ARTE commissioning editor Katja Ferwagner, cultural affairs journalist Marco Schmidt as well as French director Lilian Corbeille, Best Film award winner at last years' festival.

Dennis Gansel will hold a master-class, an old tradition at the festival, on Thursday, Nov. 15th at 11 am in the HFF/M entitled: "Shit! Yippee! Please...? No! FuckYesss! - How To Get Started In The Film Business". The event is open to the public and admission is free. On Saturday, November 17th at 5 pm in the Filmmuseum, the festival will be screening his film NAPOLA (2004).
