Meet the director
Magdalena Chmielewska
Writer-director Magdalena Chmielewska was born in Poland and now lives in Vienna. Her films have been screened at international film festivals and have received various awards, including the First Steps Award and the Max Ophüls Preis, the major trophies for newcomers in German-speaking countries. At the 56th edition of the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Chmielewska was named one of the ten most outstanding up-and-coming directors from Europe. Her visual style focuses on telling stories about a longing for something that’s been lost while discovering the otherness that remains within us. Her years of experience in contemporary dance complement her methods of working with actors.
