What is the teaser text for your film FINGERTIPS?

Alain refuses to accept the pessimistic diagnosis of his son, who has been in a vegetative state since his drowning. One night, he tells his wife and daughter that he intends to bring the child home to take care of him. But their reaction isn't the one he expected...

What is the original idea of your film – how did it all start?

On February 13th 2014, Belgium became the first country in the world to legalize euthanasia for minors. This news deeply touched me and brought back a memory that was deeply buried: years ago, when I was still living in Switzerland, the young brother of a friend of mine drowned in their grandparents’ swimming pool, and this accident made him fall into a vegetative state for years. He left us in 2010. In all these years this memory kept coming back, and I kept asking myself the same question: "Is he still with us?". This question initiated the creation of the plot and characters for the film.

What was your highlight during the process of filmmaking?

Actually, there were many highlights, from the long research we made during scriptwriting, collecting testimonies and meeting doctors, or afterwards, during the shooting. I remember the day we shot the opening sequence, beginning of January, we stayed in 7°C water for 5 hours... But the footage is worth it, I think! Editing this film has also been a great learning experience for me, during which I discovered the possibilities of re-writing the story. But if I have to choose, shooting is the moment I love the most. It's a mix of tears and laughter, doubts as well as convictions. Despite the fact that this short is a drama, the atmosphere on the set was actually really joyful.

If you weren't a filmmaker, you'd be…?

A Chef ! I love cooking, and I’m always having friends over for dinner. For me, cooking is, just like cinema, a way of creating emotions and links between people.

Is it your first time in Munich? What do you expect of the city and the festival?

I went to Munich many years ago on a school trip. I loved it. I expect to meet other filmmakers and producers, discover other ways of thinking, and celebrate the world of cinema during after-parties!
