The Munich International Festival of Filmschools is held annually by the Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH

The IMF is a non-profit company jointly owned by:

- The Free State of Bavaria, represented by the Minister President
- The City of Munich, represented by the Lord Mayor
- SPIO - the "umbrella organisation" of the German film industry, represented by its President
- Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting), represented by its Director General

The International Festival of Film Schools was established in 1981. It is now one of the most important festivals for young filmmakers in the world.

More than 3,300 films have been presented at the festival since its inception. More than 3,000 foreign students and professors have had opportunities to meet, enter into discussions and share their experiences with each other. When surveyed, members of the International Film School Association confirmed that the Munich International Festival of Film Schools enjoys great popularity among its participants.

45 film schools from 27 nations are taking part in the festival this year.
