What all these young directors have in common is their desire to draw attention to themselves for the first time with their own individual styles. And their prospects look pretty rosy when one considers that big-time filmmakers such as Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Caroline Link and Lars von Trier all participated in this festival back when they were students.
Particularly appealing to audiences at this festival is the direct contact with the young filmmakers vying for the twelve awards. They are all there to present their films in person and discuss them with the public.
