Santa Monica College
Santa Monica College launched this year a film production program headed by Mexican film director Salvador Carrasco (The Other Conquest). The program is a high-quality, low-cost alternative that caters to both above-the-line and below-the-line jobs in the film industry. SMC prides itself in making films that have something relevant to say and reflect the concerns of our students' diverse cultural population. The first short film that came out of our new program was Solidarity, which was a BAFTA finalist, an official selection at Clermont-Ferrand and the American Pavilion in Cannes, and it won the San Diego and Houston Film Festivals. Its director, Dustin Brown, was recently accepted into AFI's conservatory program and is a KODAK Scholarship recipient.
