The Indian government established Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) in 1995 as an autonomous academic institution under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Institute was subsequently registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. Located at Kolkata and named after the legendary film maestro Satyajit Ray, the Institute, the second of its kind in the country, offers post-graduate diploma courses in Film and Television in 4 streams, mainly: Direction & Screenplay Writing; Motion Picture Photography; Editing and Audiography. Over the past 12 years the Institute has grown to become one of the foremost training centers in the country, having turned out talented film makers and technicians who have contributed immensely to the film industry. Students and graduates have won laurels at different film festivals in the country and abroad.
