The Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) offers with its curriculum "Audiovisual Media" a unique concept that combines three fields of study: film – art – science. Teaching aims at promoting the interdisciplinary involvement with different artistic areas. In the main study period, students can specialize in: photography, feature/ documentary/experimental film, animation, video art, light art, design, sound, art in public space, architecture, experimental informatics; moreover in theoretical fields such as art history, machine aesthetics and media arts. Students work project-oriented in studios and laboratories of the Academy of Media Arts.
While KHM is not specifically a film school, its students have won a remarkably large number of awards for their art- and filmproductions in recent years. KHM students have twice won the Honorary Foreign Student Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Raymond Boy’s An Ordinary Mission in 1997 and Reto Caffi’s On the Line in 2008).
