The 3000 students of the university come from all over the world. The number of foreign students is approximately half that of Austrian students. The faculty consists of roughly 800 teachers. The university is made up of 24 institutes. The Institute for Film and Television (Vienna Film Academy) offers courses of study in screenwriting, cinematography, directing, producing and editing. It offers graduate and post-graduate degrees and provides its students with state-of-the-art equipment. Among its alumni are numerous acclaimed directors, actors and members of other fields in the Austrian film industry.
